Itinerary
Once you land at H. Hasan Aroeboesman Airport in Ende at 2:10 p.m., your guide will greet you and take you to a local restaurant for lunch. Afterward, you'll drive to Moni, a town known for its traditional Lionese houses. The scenic journey will take you through the villages of Paga and Wolowaru. Upon arrival in Moni, you'll check into the Kelimutu Eco Lodge, where you'll stay in a small bungalow for dinner and the night.
Wake up at 4:30 a.m. and drive to Kelimutu volcano. A 1.5 km walk followed by climbing 127 steps will bring you to the summit, where you can see the volcano's famous three-colored lakes, which are currently green, blue, and black. A Dutch geologist discovered Kelimutu in 1914, when the lakes were a striking red, blue, and white. After descending from the volcano, you'll head back to Moni village to explore Koa Nara, known for its traditional Lionese houses, stone seats, and sacred cemetery. Return to your hotel for breakfast before continuing to Nduaria Village. Here, you'll experience local hospitality and visit a traditional fruit market selling various local fruits and vegetables. Next, you'll drive toward Bajawa, stopping at Penggajawa Beach along the way. Your final stop before checking into your hotel is the village of Wogo, a newer settlement that beautifully showcases the rich traditions of the Ngada culture with its rows of traditional houses. Upon arrival in Bajawa, you'll check into the Sanian Hotel and settle into the VIP 2 room for dinner and your overnight stay.
After breakfast at your hotel, you'll start your day exploring the traditional villages of the Bajawa tribes. First, you'll visit Bena Village, a remarkable megalithic settlement. Here, the community still practices their ancestral beliefs, which are represented by the Ngadhu and Bhaga structures. These conical, thatched-roof huts symbolize the male and female ancestral spirits. Next, you'll visit Tololela Village, located 650 meters above sea level. This village has 31 traditional houses belonging to seven different clans, which are represented by seven pairs of Ngadhu and Bhaga in the village yard. On your way, you'll stop on the slopes of the active Inerie volcano for a photo opportunity. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. After lunch, you'll drive to Warusoba village to enjoy a traditional Bajawa dance performance and a "Suling" concert, a unique musical performance using bamboo flutes. Finally, you'll return to your hotel for the evening.
After breakfast, you'll leave Bajawa and begin your journey to Ruteng. Along the way, you'll stop in Aimere to see how arak is made. This traditional alcoholic drink, distilled from the lontar palm tree, is a central part of Florensian culture and is used in almost every important event or ceremony. Next, you'll visit Ranamese Lake, a stunning crater lake nestled in a natural mountainous reserve. At an altitude of 1,220 meters, the lake is 21 meters deep and surrounded by a dense, lush forest. With its fresh climate and clear water, the area is perfect for trekking and birdwatching. You may also spot some freshwater fish and wild macaques. During the rainy season, the forest is especially beautiful, decorated with a variety of colorful wild orchids. Upon arrival in Ruteng, you'll check into the Spring Hill hotel, where you'll stay in a Deluxe Room for dinner and the night.
After breakfast at the hotel, you'll begin the overland journey to Labuan Bajo, located on the western tip of Flores Island. Your first stop is Ruteng Puu, a traditional compound of three houses used exclusively for ceremonies. You'll continue your drive to Labuan Bajo, with stops at Cancar and Lembor to admire the stunning panoramic views of rice fields set against a backdrop of rolling hills. You'll also have the opportunity to see other local sights along the way. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant before you continue to Labuan Bajo.
