Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival - Manado - Tangkoko (D)

Welcome to Manado, the vibrant capital of North Sulawesi and your launchpad to a land of striking contrasts! This region is a gateway to adventure, boasting everything from pristine beaches and world-class dive sites to lush highlands and volcanic peaks. Meet your guide and begin a scenic drive toward Tangkoko Nature Reserve, passing charming coastal villages and rich countryside along the way. In the late afternoon, you'll venture into the dense lowland forest for a two-hour guided walk in search of North Sulawesi’s unique, endemic wildlife. With luck, you'll spot crested black macaques and hornbills, but the true highlight is the elusive Tarsier Spectrum. This tiny, nocturnal primate—known locally as Tangkasi and about the size of a human fist—is the world's smallest and finds its last refuge here. Its adorable appearance, especially its large, saucer-like eyes, captivates all who see it after nightfall. The calls of the hornbill and the Maleo bird will enrich this immersive jungle experience, which is home to a rich diversity of endemic mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.

Notes:

This tour includes guided jungle treks through Tangkoko National Park, led by licensed local rangers – please follow their instructions and park regulations.

Day 2 | Tangkoko - Tomohon & Minahasa Highland (B, L)

Begin the day with an early four-hour guided walk in Tangkoko. The morning light is the best time to see birds and monkeys foraging near the coast. After working up an appetite, return to the hotel for breakfast and check out. The journey continues to the Minahasa highlands and the town of Tomohon. En route, you'll stop to explore the historical Waruga Sawangan, a former graveyard of the Minahasan noble class. Next, witness local craftsmanship firsthand in two villages: see traditional wooden houses being constructed in Woloan, and observe potters at work in the pottery village of Pulutan. Enjoy a delicious lunch at a fish restaurant located right on the edge of Lake Tondano. Afterwards, spend a relaxing afternoon at the nearby Lake Linow, famous for its beautiful, shifting sulfur-induced colours.

Day 3 | Tomohon & Minahasa Highland (B)

The morning begins with a climb up the active Mahawu Volcano. The hour-long ascent to the 1,311-meter crater edge offers sensational views. On a clear day, look out for the Bunaken Islands, Manado Bay, and the neighboring Lokon and Soputan volcanoes. Next, you'll explore a traditional market to see the variety of plants, flowers, spices, and vegetables grown in the fertile highland climate. The afternoon is reserved for relaxation: choose between spending time at a tranquil waterfall or a calming hot spring before returning to the hotel.
